Dear Chris: I have an Electrolux Home Products - Frigidaire - Model #: FFTR1814QW3, Manufactured: 10-15, Electrical Rating: Amps—6.0 Volts—115 Hertz—60. Several months ago, it started trickling water down onto the items inside the refrigerator. Last weekend, the refrigerator seemed to not be cooling the items properly, with breakthrough moments of cooling, until it was not cooling at all. Everything in the refrigerator had to thrown away. I placed Refrigerator/Freezer Baking Soda boxes in the refrigerator, turned down the refrigerator dial so that it stays on & that the freezer can continue freezer food frozen, but the refrigerator still is not cooling. However, now the food in the freezer is starting to thaw more rapidly. It is a refrigerator model that has a louder running compressor than most & I cannot hear it cycle anymore. - What can I do or needs to be done in order to get the refrigerator & freezer working correctly, short of having to hire a repairman, if at all possible.
Hi @angelhope , Some things to look at: Check the condenser coils located underneath at the bottom of the fridge near the compressor are clean and free of dust. Also make sure that the condenser fan is operating, if the coils feel warm to hot. Check that there is no oily residue below the compressor or the condenser coils or on the coils as this could indicate a refrigerant leak. With the compressor running check if the inside of the freezer compartment at the rear of the compartment, feels icy cold to the touch. The evaporator unit and evaporator fan are located behind a panel, inside of the freezer compartment at the rear. Behind this panel is where the “cold” comes from to cool the freezer and the refrigerator to the desired temperatures. It it doesn’t feel icy cold with the compressor running then there may be a problem with the sealed system. Either a faulty compressor, a blockage in the system or a lack of refrigerant. Depending on your location, you may need a licensed refrigerator repair service to test the sealed system due to government environmental regulations on the handling of refrigerants
