My freezer is heating instead of cooling. It gets very warm inside. Its a Frigidaire Gallery with freezer on the bottom. Any advice on what to do? Thank you.
Hi @shkurra , When the compressor is running, open the freezer door and manually operate the door switch. You should feel icy cold air being blown out of the vents at the back of the freezer compartment by the evaporator fan. If you release the door switch the fan should stop. If the air coming from the vents at the back of the freezer compartment is not icy cold then there is a problem with the sealed system. Either a faulty compressor, a blockage somewhere in the sealed system or a leak of refrigerant in the system. Check for any oily residues on the condenser coils near the compressor under the compartments or under or near the compressor which may indicate a leak of refrigerant. There is a special oil added to the refrigerant to lubricate the compressor and if there is a leak then the refrigerant will escape to the air undetected but the oil will leave a trace. Also check how hot the compressor motor is (it should be warm but not too hot to touch) or if there is ice build up on the pipes leading from the compressor indicating a blockage. Depending on your location, you need a licensed repairer to check the sealed system due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases. If you can’t feel any air coming from the vents at the back of the freezer compartment then there may be a problem with the evaporator fan - part #13 cabinet parts, fan blade or power to the fan.
