According to the teardown of the iPhone 4 and Broadcom site… Broadcom BCM4329FKUBG Chip has a combo FM (receiver and transmitter)… Can it be utilized as an FM radio? Does the phone have an FM antenna or can the wired headset be used as an antenna ?
getting use of the fm radio would involve serious hacking. i wouldn’t say that it’s impossible - but at the moment it’s not likely an option to use the fm radio on the iPhone. fm antennas must be longer than a gsm antenna - so the iPhone would most likely use the headset cable as an antenna
There’s a possibility that Apple has a plan to activate that functionality down the road, like they did with the Bluetooth hidden inside the iPod touch. As of now it does nothing.
Actually, the FM radio is being used for Nike Fit.
