Hello All, I’ll try to be brief: 2017 MacBook Pro 13” (Functional Keys) had scheduled appt. for Keyboard Recall/Replacement. The DAY before apt, display randomly begins to completely malfunction with horizontal lines from top to bottom, both colorful and solid black. After some research, I believe its most likely a failed T-CON (or surrounding component) after overheating from failed fans. TL;DR: When getting keyboard replacement (for free per recall) I know they replace the entire top case as well. What is contained in the “top case”? Could this potentially include the T-CON replacement and/or any components that could potentially be causing this problem? Any ideas how to best proceed?
Technically this is not the ‘FlexGate’ issue that was the backlight cable failure so every other backlight LED was lit looking like stage foot lights!
You do indeed have a different issue related to the T-CON board. Apple has not offered any service program for it. I would see if you can cool your system down hopefully so it doesn’t glitch when you bring it in for the keyboard. Let them take it in to fix the keyboard as that is all that is failing! You understand??? The Keyboard is what you are focusing on and thats it! Now after you get the system back test it! Is it fixed? Apple tends to fix other issues even when that QC it. Hopefully they will replace the display assembly which is where the T-CON is attached to.
