i tried to charge my fitbit and when i connected the charger the display showed it needed charging but there was no vibration to indicate that it was connected. consequently it never charged. i do not have a button on my charge connector.
Try cleaning the gold contact points on both the watch and charger with a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol
