Hi, I have a frigidaire upright freezer that the condenser fan seems to run continuously. Freezer seems to be cooling correctly, with recommended being about -22C, and max being close to -30. Door switch is working correctly, and it seems like compressor and interior fan are cycling properly. I am just not sure if it is normal for the condenser fan to run all the time.
Hi Do you mean the evap fan as looking at the parts for the model, (supplier 1, supplier 2 ), it doesn’t appear to have a condenser fan (you mentioned both fans), although the wiring diagram does show it. It is a bit confusing. If it has a condenser fan and it is running continuously, looking at the wiring diagram it is powered directly by the control board. A lot of condenser fans have a thermistor/thermostat connected which is set to operate the fan if the temperature near the condenser exceeds their set range. The wiring diagram doesn’t show one for the fan and no parts suppliers even lists the condenser fan as a spare so it can’t be checked visually online. Have you checked if the condenser coils are clean and free of dust etc? If the condenser coils are clogged up the heat absorbed by the refrigerant as it passes through the evaporator unit cannot be dissipated as quickly as it should be, when the refrigerant passes through the condenser and this reduces the cooling efficiency and the fan may be running all the time to cool it down to the required temperature. Also if the temp in the freezer is getting down to -30°C this is lower than it is set for. The diagram shows that the set range is 4°F (-15°C) to -4°F (-20°C) Your temps are in the range of -7.6°F (-22°C) to -22°F (-30°C). It seems that the range limits may have shifted, unless the temp gauge is wrong ;-) If it is getting too cold then perhaps there’s a problem with the temperature control thermostat (p/n 5304513033)
