Chosen Solution

Hi, so yesterday I dropped my iPhone in the toilet, it came in contact with about 10 cm water for 1~2 seconds. I took it out and the top right part of the screen was black and the screen was unresponsive and then it shut down. I put it in rice because that’s the first suggestion I received and then took it out about 25 hours later (I also took it out twice during the 25 hours) and it doesnt work. I read that you should connect it to power and wait for a few hours so I’m currently doing that. I cant afford to pay the 299$ asking price of Apple and I can’t buy iFixit tools either because i dont live in the States. Any help would be appreciated.

Vaibhav Ganesh  skip the rice. Using rice is about the same as doing nothing, it does not do anything. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart/sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides. You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning 3/4 of the board. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken missing. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Hope this helps, good luck

Hi there, You have to make sure that your phone is totally dry, not only outside, but also inside. There is no certain way to make sure that the inside part is dried up. The only way is to leave it out in a dry area(in a bag of rice, or tissue box will also accelerate the drying process) area for a long time, probably for a few days. Until then, you shouldn’t turn it back on as the action may short the electrical circuit inside. Other than this, there’s no other way unless you open it up and void it, or go to an authorize service shop so that they can open it up and make sure all pieces inside are dried up, or fix the them if needed to.
