I have inherited a faulty PS4 for free as my friend said it was “mildly broken” after he opened it up to clean it and put it back together.

The issues are : disk drive doesn’t take disks, the disc won’t go in, I have opened up PS4 and no immediate problems or blockages that I can seeI get error su-42118-6 when I try and update the PS4. I have tried to install the file from USB in Safe Mode and get same issue. Am I to assume both of these issues are interconnected? Any suggestions? Should I just replace the disk drive?

This su-42118-6 error comes from a broken ribbon connector between your motherboard and BD-ROM. When this happens, the system won’t be able to communicate with the BD-ROM. To fix it, investigate the BD-ROM ribbon connection between the drive and motherboard. You can check if the PS4 works correctly after you fixed the ribbon connector issue. Otherwise kindly check out the method in the post below. https://www.minitool.com/news/ps4-firmwa

If it’s regular console check the main cable going from the disc drive to the mother board close to the power supply connection if cable is bad replace and it will work. If it is slim there is some fuse you have to replace f6201 or f6202
