Chosen Solution

Hey, A few days ago my 2017 Macbook Pro 15” Retina (Touchbar) froze while running Illustrator. So, I pressed the Power Button until it restarted. So, it booted until the part where I can enter my password but every time I put in my password it restarted again. So, basically it got stuck in a boot loop. After looking up some solutions on I decided to load up the macbook in Disk Utility (CMD + R) and decided to reinstall the OS and wipe whatever I have on it. As I am not too worried of my data cause I have everything backed up on the cloud. So it load up the Internet Disk Recovery but in the middle of it give s me an error -5005f but then suddenly dies. I had my macbook pro at full battery since the point it froze for the first time. Now when I press the power button the fans start running at full speed but nothing comes on and nothing else works. I took it to the “genius” at the apple bar and they said I have to send it in for repair. Since, it is out of warranty it will cost me an arm and leg. I am a student and right now I cant afford to pay that much. So, if some apple intellect suggest me something I can try I have access to all the equipment needed to openup and diagnose the problem. Just looking for a direction. I would really appreciate your help :)

Ouch! You’ll need a new logic board! As to what happened… You cooked your board, I’ve seen three others with the same scenario heavy graphics artist. This is where the GPU has overheated. So why does my system show a screen image when I try to restart my system? Your system has two graphic systems the Intel graphics engine which is part of the CPU and then the dedicated GPU chip. When you start your system you are seeing the Intel graphics engine and during the boot up the graphics switches over or at least its trying to the dedicated GPU. Clearly it can’t get there at which point the systems SMC will lock up the system which is where you are now. If you had taken out an AppleCare+ contract the costs would have been reduced.
