I repasted the cpu and applied some thermal pads to the heatsink. Popped the chassis back on and when i fired it up i notice the fan doesn’t turn on. Ran a startup diagnostic and it reports the fan is functional. I’m wondering if I put too much insulation that the fan isn’t being triggered? The unit gets a little hotter on the bottom chassis but seems to run faster/doesn’t throttle as hard and core temp app reports lower temps. I would like the fan to turn on or at least know whats up, thanks.

Crispy  for as long as your computer works appropriately, leave well enough alone ;-). you can always monitor the temperature with software like HW Monitor and Core Temp. At high load, temperature should be hovering between 83°and 90° with the fan running at low revolutions (a good fan will be barely audible). For a manual/custom fan control check on here It’s part of the Dell Power Manager.

maybe its the SMC or something on the motherboard was shorted
