image was from Apple Diagnostics and TG Pro. I tried resetting SMC to no avail. I need some help. My fan is constantly on. I have downloaded TF Pro and it does say that the GPU sensor may not be working properly. The GPU sensor registers at 32 degrees celsius in TG Pro. Even the override and auto boost in TG Pro doesn’t keep the fan from running at full tilt 6500 rpm. What can I do to fix this? Do I need to replace the GPU sensor? Can I replace that sensor? Thank you for your help. Update: After turning off the CPU Throttle Fix (in beta), the fan is able to be controlled in TG Pro. So with TG Pro it is functioning without the fan running like crazy. Is there anything I can do to fix the issue without using TG Pro?
The update of the onboard diagnostics aims us to the SMC logic on your logic board. The TG Pro diagnostics implies a GPU sensor failure which is not possible in this system as it does not offer a discreet GPU only the Intel Iris graphics services within the CPU. So this is a spurious error if it wasn’t for the camera & SMC errors them selves. The reason the fan is running hard is related to the fact SMC is in Fail Safe mode to protect the CPU from over heating as it has lost access to one or more thermal sensors. This is an expected response! I’m suspecting you had a liquid spill into the keyboard which leaked down onto the logic board below wetting it around the SMC logic. At this point you’ll need to take the logic board out and carefully inspect the backside for corrosion damage. Using a soft tooth brush and distilled water scrub the area down make sure you don’t pull off any of the small SMT components. Rinse the area with 85% or better isopropyl alcohol to help dry the moisture. If that failed to solve the issue you’ll either need to find someone with the deeper skills to fix your logic board or you’ll need to replace it MacBook Air 13" Early 2018 Logic Board Replacement
