Face Id Sets Up But Does Not Unlock Phone Cracks Over Notch Iphone Xs Max

Hi, i bought a broken xs max, i can set the face id up just fine, but when i try to use it it wont recognise my face, there are cracks over the notch where the dot projector is. Are the cracks the problem?

It will set up face Id with your face, give you the green circle and say it finished but won’t read your face to unlock it?
