since update 7.50 my PlayStation Pro only shows the error SU-42118-6.  would installing a new drive fix the error?  or can’t I just swap the drive without the mainboard?

BD-ROM Drive Error / Can Not Communicate with BD-ROM. Check BD-ROM Ribbon between motherboard and drive. If the tabs are broken, replace cable and test. Also check connectors for breaks or corrosion. If no better, check and replace drive board fuses where bad: CUH-10xx / 11xx series consoles: F501, F201, F202 and F203. May require Renesas IC swap to donor daughterboard if all else fails. CUH-12xx series consoles: Typically F6202 (located on main system board). CUH-2xxx series consoles: F6201 / F6202 (located on main system board). CUH-7xxx series consoles: F6201 / F6202 (located on main system board). almost straight google

This is an actual issue as myself and quite a few people have seen this since this update. I put my PS4 in the shop on Friday because of the same issue you are having. Over the past few days, I’ve seen articles in which we aren’t the only ones seeing this message. I haven’t seen any word on a Song fix for the firmware version 7.50 at this time (the one causing the SU-42118-6 error for me, you and others). I’m waiting but for the shop to let me know as I’ve updated them with the info I’ve seen online.

I to am having this issue but mine is stuck in the update loop. I can access safe mode, as soon as try to update through USB or option 3 it starts the update and than says it can’t update and restarts or shuts off. I was able to order a new HD from Best Buy and did curbside pick up. I have not tried to install it or the software yet cause I’m afraid the same thing may happen….

The reason is a blown fuse related to the BluRay player on the mainboard. The fuses name is F6202. Just replace it.

i only receive this issue when i use a different HDD i use my standard one and i do not have this issue

Broken ribbon connector between bd-rom and motherboard. Try flipping it before ordering a new one. It worked for me. I believe the issue affects people who have opened their ps4 for cleaning or fixing another issue. When removing the ribbon cable connecting the bd-rom to the motherboard they broke the left pin on bd-rom slot. By flipping it, it might bypass the issue. I also updated using a USB stick so I didn’t have to download every time I tried another fix. Also used the 1 gig version of the update;not sure if that made any difference. Good luck.

; Thank you very much for the advice, my son got a new Ps4 pro from his grandparents for quarantine … (I wonder what they’ll give him for his birthday: / CONSULTING FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES:]. I have a question about using SSDs. Is the console fully compatible with them. Because I noticed that while playing the system often crashes and hangs: /   SSd data: Crucial MX 500

I called PlayStation console support and said I can swap for a refurbished unit for $250+

Anybody with any luck yet? Got this problem when the 8.00 update came, same now with 8.01

Disk worked on my PS4 but I still get the error. Updating in safe mode doesn’t work. Inserting disk doesn’t work. Inserting disk in PS4 disk tray does open it up. Therefore the BD Rom should be communicating with the motherboard, right? Am on 7.00 updating to 8.03

Did you take apart your PlayStation to clean or anything at anytime

Have a PS4 Pro here. All fuses test (F6201, F6202 and F6001) ok. Ribbon connector looks ok. Still have the error when updating from 7.01 to 8.03 Suspect other hardware is faulty.
