I tried to remove the roller brush to replace the brush strips, but it only comes out about an inch, I can push it back in and rotate it but cannot pull out completely
If you removed the endcap to get at the brush, the only thing that would normally keep the roll in is that the brushes do slightly touch the edges of the hole, but not enough to stop you from pulling out the brush roll. With a small flat blade screwdriver try to gently pry the roll out from the gray plastic wheel that fits into the end of the roller away from the end where you remove it (you can probably see a spring at that end when the roller pops out the inch or so) . You should be able to see the edge of the wheel. There could be hair or something wound in between the brush roll and that wheel that is jamming the roller in place on the wheel. It fits like a cork in the far end of the roller. that’s the only thing I could think of that might hold it. The only other possibility is that the drive pins have somehow become jammed into the roller, or that the roller is super loaded with hair and string.
