My daughter’s DSI XL will not ready any games. Everything else works fine picto chat, pictures, and internet are fine just can’t read any games. We have tried several games to make sure. Please help.
I was wondering if you have done a recent firmware update and if that precipitated your problem? Check all contacts and pins and make sure they line up well. Just checking on some firmware issues with this. May be you can give us some more information. Could be that your card reader is just not recognizing the games due to a)firmware issues or b) card reader not working.
My daughters dsi xl system was doing the same thing and we tried several different things and nothing worked. I just took it and shook it gently to see if maybe something was loose and it came right on… SN: (don’t shake it like you hate it, you don’t want to break it…lol)
Suggested troubleshooting procedure: 1.- Go to settings > Check your firmware version. 2.- If 4.1 or higher your flashcard could be not compatible (R4s, etc) 3.- Check with an original game 4.- If still not recognized open your DS 5.- Look for continuty in the Slot-1 pins and as well in the swtich that check if the game is inside (are the two contacts solder aside of the slot-1) 6.- If not having continuty or a bended pin your solution will be to desolder the slot-1 and replace with a new one. let it die then plug it in and put the game in.
The likelihood of a bent pin is low unless someone jammed something in there. Typically what happens with these and all cart slots is they oxidize over time and that thin layer of essentially rust will prevent a good connection. I just fixed a dsi xl that would not read cards by simply pushing the cart in several times quickly (50-100 times). This had the effect of cleaning off the oxidized parts and allowing the cart to fully connect. So before doing anything drastic - try this first - just may save you a costly repair. Not sure about the firmware causes.
I just fixed this issue on my son’s 3DS-XL Purchased in Dec 2014. He said that a message saying the “The SD Card couldn’t be recognized. Please end the game and start again.” This started happening intermittently and now the card cannot be read. I noticed that the 4th pin from the lock tab was dirty on the SD card. After cleaning with an eraser still no luck. Tried putting the card into this laptop and there were files on it. I tried a different card in the 3DS and got the same message. Then I snapped some pics of the card connector in the 3DS with my phone to try and get a look at the pins. The contact for 4th pin (clock) was corroded. It looked much lighter yellow than the rest of the pins. I got a micro-SD adapter and cycled it in and out of the 3DS about 15 times. I put the original card and the card was recognized and everything seemed to work. In summary: If you are stuck with the “SD Card” message try push-in push out another card a lot to try and get to good contact again.
Has your daughter ever put the game in reverse? If so, the pins in the game slots are broken. It happened to my ds as well, and it can’t be fixed at home , I’d recommend to look for a guy to fix it.
The only EASY way to fix this: Find a guy to repair it. See? I told you it was easy!
Try putting a clothing tag in the game slot alongside the game. It worked for me after a few tries.
