Chosen Solution
After being dropped, my iPhone fails to respond. The drop was bad enough that the mute button broke. At first, I could get the Apple logo after pressing on the home & power button (but it would not reboot). Now, even that doesn’t work! I opened it up and check on all the usual contacts and all appear to be OK. Anyone have any ideas? Apple won’t even look at such an old model - their solution is, of course, buy a new one.
If you plug it into a charger, do you get a battery icon or Apple logo on the screen? If you plug it into a computer, does the computer see it? A drop that had enough force to knock out the mute button on an iPhone 3 had a lot of force. Also, your solder is going to be very brittle by now and easily damage. There are a whole list of things that it could be, but we need some more information to narrow it down. Please answer the questions above and we’ll try to point you in the right direction.
