Small amount of drizzle on my MacBook Pro left unchecked and used for a few days.
MacBook worked but then screen had a few rain spots. Then the battery stopped charging (don’t hold me to that part it was a while ago). Then it wouldn’t turn on at all.
I saw in previous posts that people were able to use their system with damaged batteries without it charging their battery (like a desktop), but if their battery power got to 0 would they even be able to use their system in such a state?
Just trying to diagnose if it’s the battery or the logic board. I will say that the screw holders on my battery are broken… however, that might just as likely be due to a family member throwing the laptop and them breaking due to impact as due to water damage swelling. I have read that it could also mean that my battery is “swollen” and needs to be replaced.
Anyway I really don’t know where to look on this one without having to go buy a voltage meter. Or ripping out the battery.
But to make a long story shorter:
I cleaned my logic board with 93% alcohol with cotton swabsUpgraded SSDReplaced MagSafe DC-In boardReplaced thermal pasted with ?? grizzly thermonaut???
But still… No love
Did SMC reset (options control power for four seconds) - No love
I guess the next thing I will do is 12-20 hour soak the logic board in the 93% alcohol if thats what you guys would recommend.
Other than doing that and/or replacing the battery pack I can’t think what else to do besides bring it to a professional. Can’t describe how crazy this headache has been over just a couple drops of drizzle.
So.. to repeat: MagSafe lights Green first second… per usual… then goes Orange and stays Orange indefinitely. Doesn’t start up, slight drizzle damage.
You talk about slight drizzle was the system wet to the touch (dripping) or just a few drops. A few drops shouldn’t have found the way in to the logic board to cause problems. From it sounds like your battery charging logic is not working. To verify whats happening you need to look at that aspect using software. I would download this free app to review your battery & charging logic: CoconutBattery. Take a screen capture of the main window of the app and paste it here for us to see. You’ll need to capture one with the MagSafe plugged in and the second without it.
