Chosen Solution

I have not used in two years but thought would salvage it. When I start the mac it gives a flickering folder with a question mark. After some web search I booted the system with the install CD. After startup when I try to install it says “Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer” . Is replacing the hard drive the only solution for this ?

First boot up from the DVD by pressing the start button and immediately inserting the DVD. Hold down the “C” key to boot from the DVD. The system install page should show up. Go to the second page and the pull down menu will appear. Now go to Disk Utilities. By holding down the command R you are booting from the repair partition on the hard drive.
