I need to book a Genius bar appointment for my Macbook with non-working speakers. I’d like to know if they replace or repair the laptop, because I really need it for work and can’t afford not to have it for a few days. Do they open up the laptop on the spot? Or do they run a software diagnostic and decide whether or not they replace or repair? I would obviously prefer a replacement. Should I bring the original box and everything else to increase my chance? Mine is a stock model so they should have plenty in stock.

Generally they only repair the computer with the following exception: The customer has replacement rights for very new machines due to local consumer laws, Repeated repairs failed to resolve the problem and local consumer laws require replacement in this situation. Geniuses have workload piled up and are too lazy to accept new repairs. Special programs requiring replacement. I’ve never seen them opening up a device in front of a customer, all repairs are taken to the workshop and finished at a later time, possibly by someone else.
