Hello. I have an early 2005 Mac mini and in spite of looking around everywhere I have yet to see a firmware dump of this model. Does 10.5 update the firmware? My revision is 4.8.9f and I’d be interested in getting a program or OS X to reflash it so it doesn’t loose the copy after age and electron migration have taken their toll. It works great right now and I hope to keep it that way.
Unless you are planning a trip past the Van Allen belts you’re not likely to get hit by ionization radiation (cosmic radiation) which is what damages EEROM’s. I doubt you can find the PowerPC firmware BIN, even still we have a bit of a chicken and egg problem as you would need a working system to run the firmware updater, but if it’s corrupted the system won’t boot up! So you would then need a ROM burner and the hardware to connect the chip (desoldering it maybe needed). If this is important to you I would find a spare system.
