I’ve done the YLOD repair also, and I still have the same overheat problem as well. I cleaned out the entire system also. At first, I thought it was fixed bc it booted up as normal, but when I went to turn on controller the fan kicked into high gear and then red lighted on me again. I am going to attempt to do the repair again. Do I need to use the heat gun for longer than the time specified?
Not sure if you have seen this video series: http://youtu.be/Vr1zyAGwnuU I’ve used a head gun before to fix a ball grid array in an iBook. You need to make sure you’re not too close or far away as well as keeping the heat gun moving. I had to reflow the iBook 3 times before I got it right. The first time I was too far away and it didn’t fix it. The second time it worked but then stopped after a day. The third time corrected the problem. I would say that you should be ok to do it again.
