I was told I need the hard drive heat sensor and also told I don’t. After questions get an initial answer there seems to be zero follow back up if you have further questions, thus having to post this. If I install MOJAVE OS or newer I was told with a new hard drive I don’t need the sensor, is that correct? I have a new western digital built 14, October 2021 I am going to install. My iMac is taken apart and ready to go, just seeking final information. Normally I would just play it safe and install the hard drive temp sensor, but it seems to me if I do that and MOJAVE and newer OS doesn’t need the sensor it can cause issues. A-Do I have to have the sensor? B-If I put the sensor in will it cause issues with MOJAVE or newer OS?
While I cannot verify that you will need the temperature sensor, I would recommend using it anyway. This way you can restore to a MacOS version older than Mojave. The temperature sensor shouldn’t have a negative effect on the working of the computer.
