I had an iphone 5 with a cracked display after falling down. I tried to replace the display as suggested in many youtube videos. Finally, I was about to close the display, i.e. to put the down part into the chasis (where the two opening screws are), when I noticed, that the display doesnt fit at all, because the chassis was bent, on the place the iPhone hit the ground. So, I had to take off the display several times, and put it back, after trying to bend a little the chassis, so that the display can fit. Maybe 5-10 times. After it I tried to file the chassis, it still didnt fit enough. Than I followed the glory idea of filing the display itself (like plastic is easily filed) until only after a milimeter I saw the metal isolation plate. Well, at the end the display didnt work, nor it fitted into the chasis. I put the cracked display back and I ordered a new display… So, what could I have done better ?
Bending the aluminium with pliers is a lot better than filing in my opinion. It’s cleaner, and you should wrap the pliers in electrical tape to prevent scratching. Instead of filing the whole thing and ordering a new screen I would have just bit the bullet and got a new back. The rear panel replacement can be hard, but if you take your time (especially with the 5) it’s pretty simple. This all depends on confidence/experience/tools etc. but everyone on here is generally pretty happy to help out :)
I myself use a little dremil and file away the inside of the mid frame after I bend it to smooth it off.. Had a iPhone 5 an the weekend with 3 bent corner and tho worked a treat
I can bend the corners out well its just that the scratches looks terrible. any one know of a tool besides pliers but pretty affordable like under 30$ that will do a better job than the pliers?
Tool called a gtool is fantastic and a little expensive but you get what you pay for. if all four corners had bends in it would have them like new in under 2 minutes with gtool
I have a brand new replacement back for iPhone 5 and the bezel is perfect not one bend on it and I’m still having trouble getting the screen to fit I’ve done many of iPhone 5 screens in the past but this one won’t seem to clip in on the left hand side and the bottom of the phone I don’t want to apply to much pressure invade the screen breaks does any one know what the problem could be? Thanks.
