Chosen Solution
So my mac was working before the catalina update, yesterday after update the display stopped working,but the laptop turns on,so i connected it to my television and its working fine. Also the catalina update is not going past the loading screen but its working in safe mode. what can be the issue. i have researched most of the forums,but didn’t found any working solution. the mac is 4 years old and i have only replaced the battery.
Do you have access to a second mac? I fear you’ll need to nuke the drive and re-install the OS from a USB OS installer thumb drive. Catalina has been messing up a few older macs so while I haven’t seen what you have encountered it wouldn’t surprise me. Do backup what you need before you proceed. So from the second mac setup a USB thumb drive following this guide: How to create a bootable macOS Mojave installer drive Now boot up your system press the Option key to make sure you’ve booted up from your installer drive from the Startup Manager Reference: Mac startup key combinations From the menus open Disk Utility and delete all of the partitions, then reformat the drive GUID using APFS file system. Now go back into the OS installer and let it rip! Your system will reboot a few times and will appear to get stuck with a black screen and have a long beep so don’t let the scare you.
