Yesterday I left my Macbook Pro (15 inch Retina, mid 2015) open while I went to get a coffee refill and came back to find the screen black and the laptop unresponsive. When I power it on, the display remains black and the keyboard backlight and Apple logo don’t light up. When I click the trackpad I can feel that the haptic feedback is working though. I attached the Macbook to an external display via HDMI, but the display didn’t get any signal. I also tried using a flashlight on the screen, but couldn’t see anything. I reset the PRAM and SMC, but it didn’t seem to have any effect. I chatted with Apple support and they advised me to bring it in to an Autorized Reseller for repair. The problem is that I’m based in Addis Ababa at the moment, and Apple don’t have a list of resellers for Ethiopia. So any ideas about what can be done to fix this would be much appreciated, and will help me decide if I should try getting it repaired locally or maybe tackle it myself. Thanks.

See if you can do a SMC reset: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac. If that fails you’ll need to pop the bottom cover off so you can disconnect the battery and then press and hold the power swathed to fully discharge the logic board. Then leave the battery disconnected plug the MagSafe in to see if the system spontaneously restarts. If it does shut it down and plug the battery back in and then try the power button again.
