MacBook is 3 years and 150 days old (just out of warranty…). Does not leave the house and has a permanent home on the desk in my home office. One night I closed the lid and the next morning had a black screen that did not wake. Can successfully connect to an external display. Apple genius technician was no help and said I need a $500 new display which I cannot afford right now. One week later and the display turned on, worked for an hour, flickered and turned off again?? Leads me to believe it is not burnt out. Would it be correct to assume a certified Mac repair technician could change just the display cable to fix the issue? I’m incredibly annoyed!
After testing I would pop the bottom cover off and carefully blow the dust away from the fan and logic board. You may need a soft paint brush to help loosen the dust. Inspect the logic board for liquid/moisture damage or damaged components do you see any discoloration on any chips or solder joints?
