I dropped my phone in some water a few days ago and after rescuing it put it in rice for two days. It worked ok for about an hour but then the screen started having ghost touches and then went black. I know it still turns on and off as it vibrates when the power is turned on but I can’t see anything. I would like to know if I could just replace the LCD and digitizer or if this seems like a deeper issue and I shouldn’t bother with a repair.
@lindserlou should have skipped that “put it in rice for two days”! Rice does not do anything! It is absolutely useless and does not repair your phone, nor does it prevent corrosion. all it does is provide you with a false sense of security about having done something. Rice is good to eat but it is not a tool. What you need to do is to clean your phone the proper way while you can. The longer you wait the greater the chances of it never to work again. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone. This may further damage your phone. you also do not want to try to charge it any further. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using this video Once it is disassembled, you do need to clean it properly. You will need high grade isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Use this guide to see how to clean it. Even so it was written for an apple iPhone3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Do not forget to remove the EMI shields for proper cleaning. While you are cleaning it, check for any broken, missing or burned looking components. When it is properly cleaned, you must replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate.
