My macbook was damaged by some water drops that went in. The screen is working normally and I can see everything when I shine external light on it. I was told by a repair shop (not apple certified) that I need to replace the whole LCD for almost 500$. I want to make sure if it’s an LCD cable problem or just inverter. Please note that the screen is absolutely fine and is just dim. thank you

I doubt you need a new screen. This model does not have an inverter, but a LED driver for the backlight LED’s, in addition there is a fuse link that could be blown. But before we go down that path lets do a better job diagnosing things. Lets take the bottom cover off so we can see the display connector compare it to these two images of the cable and board. If they are grey or have any corrosion you’ll need to clean it off and hopefully that was the cause.

If you see any other signs of damage take a few pictures and post them here for us to see Adding images to an existing question
