Hi Guys. I hope someone can help me. Ok i don’t use replacement digitizers that are not pre soldered i think i need to hone my soldering skills before i go anywhere near that. I always use screens with all the soldering pre done. I’m asking as this is my last screen & this is is special present for a birthday otherwise i would just put another screen on. I have fitted the digitizer & it all works fine until i seat the screen onto the adhesive. Once this happens it works fine for a couple of minutes but then the screen starts to activate itself swiping through screens opening apps & typing into any text field that appears that sort of thing. Ive also noticed the top half of the screen then becomes unresponsive also. But as soon as i lift the screen up again it all starts to work fine. I have a horrible feeling that where the digitizer cable is supposed to bend itself back it has kinked a bit. I do always with any repair make sure not to trap or crease any cables this must have sprung back as i was seating the screen. This cable has not creased badly as i hadn’t started to press down fully. Is this the issue or cold there be a way to get this solved. Thank you in advance guys.
Hi everyone. I’ve found what’s going on!! Turns out, there is a small strip of black tape in between the glass and frame that keep the digitizer from “touching” itself and activating home button + digitizer randomly. The fix for this is simple. Just put a thin strip of tape in between the glass and it’s flex cables. I suggest Kapton tape since it’s adhesive is light and wont damage the flex, as well as being thin, or just carefully transfer the thin tape strip from the original digitizer to the replacement. Be sure not to cover the Digitizer Adhesive of course! Here are some pictures for you guys! http://imgur.com/a/mwTJa asdf;lasjdfas;lkdjf;asd
I had this problem tons of times and even transferring the black tape from the original digitizer didn’t always fix the job since its all about the tiny layer of kapton tape underneath the thicker black one and this layer sometimes gets wrinkled. Bought a big roll of Kapton tape off ebay and ever since I use it to tape off everything that looks like coltan or metal on my ipad mini’s and airs, no more problems at all! Kapton tape is basically insulating-heat resistant tape and for some reason its the only one fixing this problem. Other causes of ghost touch can be that the corners are bent, putting a stress on the screen or that you damaged the digitizer flex, although in my experience 95% of the time the Kapton tape does the job!
In my experience one of two things could be the issue. You have a defective part. There are 4 foam pads that sit between the LCD and the back side of the digitizer. For some reason these pads will at times interfere with the touchscreen causing the digitizer to exhibit “phantom touch syndrome” as I like to call it :) These pads aren’t needed and I’m not entirely sure why they cause issues on some digitizers and not on others. Let us know the outcome!
Alex Nguyen, you have officially saved my life. Thank you!!
hello. Quick question: i still have this problem even if digitizer isn’t seated. I have a bad digitizer or what?
I have exactly the same problem, but on an ipad2… Do you know if i could fix it with the tape? Thnx!
hi i also have this problem ipad 3 wifi screen moves on its own sometimes and one half of screen does not work send me an email manazoid4@gmail.com
Alex Nguyen, thank you for sharing this, it has been very helpful. Thanks again.
I have this problem with a OnePlus 3 and am on the second replacement digitizer assembly ( thought the first replacement that I got was defective) with the exact same problem: a strip down the left side of the screen is completely unresponsive, and then a portion of the right side of the screen causes phantom touches on the left (ie tapping the number 3 causes a simultaneous press on the 1 so I can’t even enter my pin). This happens when the digitizer is not even seated, just sitting next to the mainboard with the ribbon cable connected and nothing else touching. I’m pretty stumped.
