I recently moved from a Mid 2014 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display to a Mid 2015 15" MBPR, and something I noticed on the 2015 display panel was that I can see the individual pixels, like the display panel seems lower in quality. I do know that Apple switched vendors from the 2014 models to the 2015, and as such 2014 display panels and 2015 panels are not interchangable due to different vendor IDs in the firmware or something like that (I tried swapping panels already). Is this normal, and has anyone else noticed this difference? Or is my 2015 display panel defective?
I think you are seeing something else here. The displays are exactly the same: Native Resolution:2880x1800 I’m suspecting the graphics pushing the display could be what you are seeing! So lets break this down both the 2014 & 2015 came in two versions Intergraded Graphics (IG) as well as Discreet Graphics (DG). Basically, the IG models only offer the Intel Iris Pro 5200 graphics engine within the CPU chip. The DG models offered a second GPU: GeForce GT 750M (2014) or Radeon R9 M370X (2015). So now you’ll need to check what your systems are IG or DG as thats likely what you are seeing. Plug in your systems S/N here EveryMac - Lookup let us know what you discover. Update (09/09/2021) @formerglory - I guess its time for a new display assembly! If you had said the angle of the display altered things I would have aimed you that way first. Here’s the needed part 15" MacBook Pro Display Assembly, Apple P/N 661-02532 and the guide to put it in MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Display Assembly Replacement Be aware this series is still highly sought! So parts are hard to come by and as you can see even used parts are still expensive! I just got a broken one for parts as mine is in need of repairs too.
