Found my old iPod classic 160 GB model from 2007 that stopped working years ago. I am able to get it to boot to the Apple logo before it shows the Red X. I have tried putting it in disk mode and it will not work. It goes to the Red X screen again. My computer does not recognize when the iPod is connected to it. I am able to get it into diagnostic mode. When doing a manual test and going to IO/Harddrive/HDSMARTData it reads [Open Device..] then never leaves that screen. Does anyone have any insight as to if this is more than likely a Hard Drive issue or a Logicboard issue? Would love to purchase one or the other and try to replace it myself but would hate to spend over $100 on the wrong part. Thanks so much.

Mark, it could be a HDD, logic board or the HDD cable. There was another question just like this yesterday and another user @oldturkey03 suggested the following: I’d suggest a USB to Zif connector. That will allow you to check your HDD on your computer. That way, if the HDD is still working, you can be sure that you are getting the right part i.e. HDD cable or new logic board. If it is not, you need to start with your HDD as the culprit.
