The cracking sound you heard was your LCD breaking. After that point, the screen was lost. In order to get your phone working again you will need to get another screen and replace it. A battery reset is helpful, but no different than a hard reset. A battery reset will not make your screen work again. The pentalobe screw by your charging port has no effect on the functionality of your device and is only there to hold the screen down.
