Dell does not sell it. I checked online and there is a site called laptopbatteryexpress that seem to have excellent reviews. You can buy a battery for the xps 15 9550 for like 120 or 130 dollars depending on if you want the 84wh or the 97wh. I did check old reviews from other sites a long time ago and someone mentioned in a mac forum that said uses garbage batteries like on ebay but charge retail prices. But when i check google and reviews, i see a ton of excellent reviews. Does anyone have opinion on this site? So from reading the site, these batteries are not geniune from dell but they are made by them… correct? But reviews seem to be superb. Has anyone bought any batteries from them and can give opinion? Price is pretty average i say… but how does it work? I see ifixit only sells the 56wh and the 84wh only? Update (09/19/2020) I found 2 sites that seem to sell xps 15 9550 batteries. The first one is authentic as i believe lot of people mentioned this site earlier. It cost 150 dollars but it is genuine. They seem to have the 56wh and 84wh but the 56wh is not available now. https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?a… Does anyone know about laptopbatteryexpress? These don’t seem to be authentic and seem to show made in samsung and shipped here. So are these very good but not premium? But they are selling at pretty close to retail prices so this is pretty good as well? https://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/Lon… https://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/Lon… Now the big question i have is this. Does the xps 15 9550 allow a 97wh battery or not? Parts-people does not have a 97wh and doesn’t ever have it. But laptopbatteryexpress has the 56wh, 84wh and even 97wh. Update (09/19/2020) Can anyone here confirm the 97wh works for the xps 15 9550? Because i certainly wouldn’t mind getting the 97wh over the 84wh if it cost a bit more. Also ifixit batteries are made by ifixitthemselves right? So its much better quality than those on amazon… but not as good as people parts since that is official dell parts?
In terms of the fit, I’ve got some information on this. On these Dell laptops that use the internal softcell battery, they tend to come from the factory “compromised” unless you only rely on a M.2 SSD because the bay design does not allow you to fit a 2.5” hard drive into the machine unless you also downgrade the battery. It was a big deal just a few years ago but IMO with how cheap M.2 SSDs are now it’s not as much of an issue - but if you want a cheap ass storage upgrade path don’t install one of these packs. Note about mSATA systems (Usually Haswell/Broadwell): if you have one of these and choose to eliminate the second drive you will need an mSATA SSD. If you have a 2.5” drive it’s highly advised to keep it since mSATA is normal SATA with zero benefit other then size since even the TBW rating is compromised. I recommend keeping the compromise battery in these and not bothering with the slot on consumer hardware or only a WWAN card on business. If you want dual drives, you’re limited to 56Wh packs. The 84Wh pack require a M.2 SSD as the sole drive - NO additional secondary will fit. It isn’t shown on one of my usual sources, so YWMV. Buy it from a reliable source who has a solid return policy or stick to the 84Wh pack if you want to be safe - 10Wh isn’t going to make enough of a difference you’ll notice it day to day.
Roger Bailey “ifixit batteries are made by ifixitthemselves right” I am certain they are not. iFixit will get battery that have been manufactured to OEM specs and they stand behind their products. You are not going to get a better warranty or support than you do on here. We are not going to make any recommendations for any other seller since they are available on Fixit. If they wouldn’t be, we could easily do that but as our host it is only fair to recommend the products from here first. Ultimately you can purchase from whomever you are comfortable with and whatever you can afford. I purchased from the seller you mentioned, before and had no issues with it at all.
