Chosen Solution

I have an Inspiron 15R and my battery is not charging. I have the genuine Windows 7 that came pre-installed and Windows, the battery icon in the task bar, reports a constant battery level of 62% (plugged in, charging.) The adapter is the original that came with the laptop and when I remove it, the laptop looses power and it simply dies. I have run a diagnostic from the BIOS and it says that the battery is working fine, but even with the adapter plugged in it reported an idle state. I saw on a windows forum that i should:

  • turn off the laptop,
  • remove the battery,
  • start up with the adapter,
  • open the device manager,
  • under batteries uninstall “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery”
  • shut down the laptop,
  • re-insert the battery,
  • start up again. Even that didn’t change the state. Any advice or help would be very much appreciated. Thank you. -Tharindu Wijayasekara.

Hello, these battery’s are really designed for a 2 year life. after a while the full 100% charge disintegrates. most battery’s are 4800 mhz fully charged new. Over time it will be anywhere from 0 to 4800 mhz. meaning it could read 400 mhz 100% charged. There are cases where the battery readings are so far gone they give false positives. I believe that’s what is happening in this case, specially if when you unplug your AC adapter while holding a 62% charge your battery has become defective. An alternative check is to load Ubuntu a free Linux OS. Run the integrated battery test within the OS do a search for power it should pop up. (all New E-stewards standards are using this) and see what the readings tell you.

I searched on Google some solution is update your BIOS, it doesn’t work for me but worked for some people, try it. you can find your bios update in your manufacturer’s website

Hello, I would recommend a battery replacement to start as batteries are relatively inexpensive. I had a similar problem to an HP Pavilion G7 and a battery replacement fixed the problem. Let me know if you need help! ~JS

Check the settings in BIOS, look for the AC adapter and make sure it shows the proper wattage for it. Check to see if the battery shows up or if there is a problem. You can also use the built in diagnostics to check the power as well as other problems. To get to BIOS or Diagnostics, press F10 when you see the Dell splash screen.
