Chosen Solution

Hi guys - I hope someone can help me. I have had this issue for a while now and everywhere I look online tells me that it is a bad battery. Every time I power down my MacBook Pro 2012 and power it up the date and time keep resetting to 01/01/21. I am using Catalina as my OS. Since I read pretty much everywhere that it is due to a bad battery and that my battery was getting close to 1000 cycles, I decided to replace the battery with a new one, which works fine and charges well except I still have the issue with the date and time resetting. If I restart the laptop instead of shutting down and then powering up, either on battery or AC power, it is fine. However when I shut down and power on again, date and time reset when on battery only. I have tried resetting pram and smc and no luck. As the laptop is now around 10 years old, I do not really want to have to take it to Apple, as they will probably tell me to get a new one. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Well, you have a good head scratcher! Somehow you have a short which is clearing the clock settings. But as you noted its only when on battery the issue shows up. This is going to take someone with deeper skills to workout as the logic board rails needs to be checked. I would recommend you contact Paul Daniels as he has the skills and is your neck of woods.
