I’m trying to help a friend diagnose this. Small amount of water came out (pushed out of sealed bottle by flight air pressure) in a bag onto a MacBook Pro. Everything works ok except for a darker stripe on the right side of the screen, but the screen image is still there ok, but dimmer. When hooked to external monitor, the image is fine, so I’m thinking the motherboard is fine. Pixel image ok across the whole screen indicates connector cable and LCD is working. The dim stripe, I’m thinking may be a section of the backlight that got shorted out? Any other thoughts on whether this is the right diagnosis or alternative ideas? Any good ways to fix this?

Sadly, this is not a backlight issue, if that where the case you would have seen the flare from the LED’s not a crisp line and they are in different strings across the display as seen here.

Your issue is within the displays T-CON board in its vertical scan logic.

Which is part of the display assembly. Sadly, its time for a new display assembly: 13” MacBook Pro Display Assembly - Space Grey, Apple P/N 661-0797013” MacBook Pro Display Assembly - Sliver, Apple P/N 661-07971
