I have an organization Dell Latitude 3190 laptop, and I use a mouse and USB drive a lot on it, but earlier today I discovered that the USB drive (with bitlocker) was being spammed with the unlock message. I decided to look at the port and try switching the mouse and the drive, and there was a deformation of the port. What can I buy to replace it, and is it possible to do so?
First, as it sounds like a work computer. Contact your IT. If they issued it to you, they commonly can take charge of a repair, often times by opening a warranty service ticket. Usb ports on this model are part of the systemboard. The whole systemboard would be replaced by Dell, either with onsite repair or a depot repair. Your organization may also have accidental damage protection. You need to tell them. Ports get worn out or damaged over time. So many end users don’t tell IT for fear of getting in trouble, when IT may have a simple fix. (They’ll probably give you a loaner pc, then deal with it themselves.) Resoldering the usb port may be an option, but if the repair doesn’t work, then what will you tell IT? Dell actually provides disassembly instructions on the support site. Put in your service tag, choose documentation, then open the owners manual. https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/latitude-1…
