I bought a cheap laptop cover and it appears to have damaged the aluminum “lid” of my laptop–I’m totally blanking on the proper word right now, sorry about that. Is this lasting damage I should be concerned about, or will it be okay as long as I never use this style of laptop cover again? This is actual buckling and warping you’re seeing, not a scratch.

Your only option to fix this if the display is not working is replace the display assembly MacBook Pro 13" (A2289, 2020) Display Assembly and here’s the guide MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports 2020 Display Assembly Replacement Update (07/06/2022) @Mikey Lewis - This is what I call an edge case! For the sake of giving you a view internally review this great teardown of the retina display which is using the same basic construction in your series MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown. Unlike it the T-CON is located within the main body with the signals going across a set of ribbon cables.
