Hi, I have a 2008 13” MacBook A1181 (EMC 2242, MB 820-2279-A) wich does not want to boot. This is what’s happenning: I press the power button onceThe macbook turns on, the cpu is running and getting hot, the fan is spinning, the activity light turns on whiteAbout 4 seconds later, the screen “tries” to turn on for a split second, and then the screen turns back off, meaning there is no backlight and no image (I shined a light on the screen to verify this), and the activity light turns offThe cpu keeps running and getting hot and the fan keeps spinningThen I cannot do anything, and I have to shut down with a single press of the power button. What I tried: Resetting SMC and the NVRAM, but macbook doesn’t seem to respond to the key combinationsVisual inspection on both sides of the board and could see no physical damage, no corrosionCPU Vcore is present, it’s reading about 0.930VWith the charger plugged in but no battery present, the magsafe connector shows a green lightWith the charger plugged in and a battery present, magsafe turns green then amber, and one battery level light keeps flashing. If I disconnect the charger, about 4 seconds later the one battery level light flashes very fast around 6 times and then turns offThe macbook behaves no differently with or without battery, with or without keyboard, by changing the RAM combinationsRemoving all ram DIMMs does make the motherboard put out a beeping noiseI plugged my phone to see if USB is working and sure enough it is charging when the macbook is turned on. I would really like to repair this macbook if possible, and it seems to be very close to be working so I have hope I can bring it back to life. Could anyone please give me some help to troubleshoot this? All help is very greatly appreciated.
First let’s see if you can get that battery charged up. Leave the machine off. Hook up the mag-safe and leave it over night. In the morning press the battery test button. Please let us know your results.
