Before we all got locked down due to this virus- My 2015 MBP battery was dying. I got it to an Apple store and they confirmed the battery had reached the end of its’ capability to charge, which is normal. They recommended they take it and send it offsite for a swap out which would be about $200 and take 7-10 days. This was before social distancing was a good idea and I would have lost about four gigs if I did it, so I opted to swap it out myself. Got a kit, took the whole laptop apart (now I know why they don’t do these repairs at the store) and swapped out the battery without a hitch. Problem is, now the CPU says it’s running at anywhere from 400-500% and the fans kick on like an aircraft carrier. The computer boots fine, but the laptop is so incredibly sluggish it’s effectively useless. Upon some deeper diving this apparently has occurred to a lot of users for a myriad of different reasons. An SMC reset is usually prescribed being that it handles battery and power related issues. SMC reset several times- No help. NVRAM/PRAM reset- No Help. Booted up the hardware diagnostic and it says the battery has an issue though once it boots normally and I look at the battery hardware in the OS, it says everything is fine. I’ve looked up the diagnostic error code (PPT004 & PFM006) and it also says the battery has an issue. I’ve triple checked that I hooked everything back up correctly, so while It’s still possible I hooked something back up incorrectly is possible but unlikely. Anyone know what to do here? The Apple stores are closed. Got nothing but time right now so I’m interested in fixing this myself but this is about the depth of my abilities here and I can’t use my DJ laptop at all.
Help! Thanks.
That is a good question. Most of the time when a computer gets a new battery, there is a delay. The computer “thinks“ you have the old battery in because it was getting used to the battery. A computer battery works like muscles… They have a “memory“ that tracks the system while the battery is in use. I would suggest taking the battery out and wait 24 hours or more. The put the battery back in and turn the computer on. Wait for it to die all the way. Now charge it to 100% and check the CPU. This has worked many times for me, but I don’t know about Apple because I am an Huawei guy myself. I hope this helps, but I think that if this doesn’t work then you might have to take it in when the CoV-SARS-2 is over.
