I was replacing the battery in my iPhone X and all was going well until I, for some bizarre reason decided to connect the battery before connecting the screen back on. Now everything still works fine as usual but my phone feels a lot warmer than usual. Also, when removing the old battery, I couldn’t remove the adhesive strips so I had to pry it out. This resulted in a small part of the wireless charging chip to come off when I got my prying tool under the battery (really messy job I know). Any thoughts? Cheers Update (07/18/2019)
Attached is a photo of the chip, part of the top cover has come off leaving the middle exposed.
First, yes it can have a short. Connecting the screen after the battery usually has signs with image being effected. But I’m not as knowledgeable as to whether it can without symptoms. The wireless charging chip could definitely be the issue. If you truly think there’s more heat than there was previously, you can open the phone and feel that chip to see if it’s getting hot. It could be a bad battery too. But the broken chip isn’t good. It could’ve been shorted internally. This can cause heat. If the chip is the source of extra heat you can feel it…carefully but you can use your cheek to feel the heat. Sounds weird right? But I’m serious. Hands aren’t as sensitive to heat as your face. Even Jessa Jones (solderer) uses this method. The chip Should be warm if charging, but especially when not charging it should not be hot. If the chip is shorted, you don’t want to let it go. Too much heat can damage the phone. You’ll need to get a microsolderer to fix it.
