After a 3rd attempt everything went smoothly or so I thought I used a low setting heat gun as instructed in a video to seal the adhesive, I may have gotten too close to the power/data port and home button, because after 4 hours of waiting for the adhesive to bond I started to notice first that the Home button didn’t respond, I tried to reset settings no luck, and then I found when I plugged it in it won’t charge unless pressure is put on the screen near the port like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5damnSS… but much worse, the home button does respond when pressure is applied, is it possible the heat unseated the board or worse yet bent it somehow with the heat? Am I pretty much screwed and now need a new logic board or do I just need to reopen, seat the board correctly and close up with new adhesive? I forgot to say everything else works fine. Upon further inspection it did not seal properly I can see visually that it appears the area of the button and connector is not in alignment. The bezel is still good so I can reuse, after applying pressure again it is now charging, obviously this is long out of warranty so I can’t get a replacement, I’m using an assistive Home button at the moment, it can limp along like this but would be better if it worked the way is supposed to. Please tell me what you think is wrong. Thanks
I wouldn’t jump to conclusions like the logic board being at fault before trying to replace the cheaper components such as the charging dock and the home button assembly first. You can get the home button assembly from here: iPad 2nd and 3rd Gen Home Button Assembly You can get the iPad 2 dock connector here: iPad 2 Dock Connector Guide to replace home button: iPad 2 GSM Home Button Assembly Replacement Guide to replace dock connector: iPad 2 GSM Dock Connector Replacement
Heat can cause the plastic in the charging port to warp which sounds like thats what happened here as now you can not fully insert the charging port to charge the unit. Unless you put pressure on it. Did you get a new screen with adhesive and a home button already on the new screen? Or did you transfer the home button to the new screen?
