My son pulled ps4 from shelf and it landed on its corner. Since then, it only recognizes the controller from close range. I was wondering if the optical pickup could be jarred from its proper place. Ive already tried resetting and rediscovering the controller with same result
PS4’s don’t use optical pickup. The controller connects to the PS4 via bluetooth. This console has an integrated bluetooth/WiFi chip that controls both the WiFi and bluetooth capabilities. I’m guessing when you dropped it you may have broken the WiFi antenna or caused the antenna cable to become unattached from the motherboard. It’s also possible that the WiFi/Bluetooth chip broke when it was dropped, but that is not as likely. If you need someone to take a look at it for you I would be happy to do that. Just click on the link by my name that says “TronicsFix” and that will take you to my business listing that will have a link to my website. There are also lots of other businesses listed on IFIXIT. I hope this helps.
The wifi antenna has two solder points. The one on the right frequently breaks loose especially if dropped. It needs soldered back on. It’s seldom the antenna detaching from the board. All it takes is the antenna itself being bent a little to pop the solder joint loose. Hope this gets everyone going again.
I have the same problem. But I didnt drop mine. I got bought it from gamestop new. Probably they did. But in order for me to operate the ps4, the controller must be in a very close range to the actual system . IV tried resseting the system and the controller but no help. Ive even tried multiple friend controllers, still no results.
Yea, the same problem happens to me, I had dropped it and my controller has to be within a 3 foot range of my ps4 for it to work. I had also dropped it on the corner edge and it has been like that ever since
