Hi I have the pencil 2 and an 2020 iPad Pro the pencil has connected to the iPad magnetically and showing on Bluetooth, however the pencil is not doing anything I have tried the following turn Bluetooth on and off forgot pencil in Bluetooth and reconnecting restarting ipad changed tips all with no joy. Has anyone any ideas that may help? Thanks

I’m having the same issue with my daughter’s pencil. We have several 11 inch iPad Pros in the family. When we connect the pencil to the side of any iPad, the iPads recognize the pencil and can see the status of it’s charge. However, once connected none of the iPads are responding to the pencil in the OS, in Procreate, or in any browser. I know it isn’t a problem with the iPads, because all of the other pencils can be rotated and function with no issues. So it’s definitely an issue with the pencil. We replaced the nib with no luck. I performed a visual comparison between a working 2nd gen Apple Pencil and the subject problem pencil. Nothing stands out as a possible root cause. There are no cracks on the case and all of the conductive material on the tip (under the nib) appears to be intact, including the conductive square on the top. I wish I knew more about the construction of the pencil itself, as I feel this would help me identify root cause. I’ll post again if I can figure anything out.

To date, the second Apple Pencil only works with the 11-inch iPad Pro and third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Firstly check out if the 2nd generation Apple Pencil works with your iPad. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211029 Go into settings and make sure Bluetooth is turned off. Plug in pencil and quickly turn on Bluetooth. The pad must recognize the pencil from settings instead of the pop up box.

Hi - I know you already tried forgetting device and restarting iPad, I tried that several ways and it didn’t work for me either, but when I did it a very specific way, it finally worked. I’m not sure if all of these steps are necessary, but try it.1) forget Apple Pencil device under iPadOS settings—>Bluetooth2) Turn Bluetooth off, then ON again. I Don’t think it matters if pencil is attached or not, but feel free to try it either way. 2) set pencil on magnetic surface of ipad if its not there already (it might say “Apple Pencil” but no charging percentage, thats okay). Make sure you leave it there for a few minutes just in case its charging without you knowing it.3) turn off iPad by holding top button and volume up side button then sliding the screen button slider to power off. 4) turn iPad back on by holding top iPad button5) For me, after putting in my passcode, the iPad recognized the pencil attached and the indicator finally said “40% Apple Pencil” and it worked again. I was close to buying a new one due to all the reports of lithium ion battery irreplaceability and other instructions not working for me. Glad i didn’t.

I tried this method as well as all the others. Still does not want to interact for me. Glad you were able to get yours to work!

I was having this exact problem! I got my iPad two days ago and I’ve playing around with it and everything has been working fine. But then today suddenly the pencil wasn’t working even though it was charged 100%. I restarted the iPad multiple times and still nothing. Finally, I realized the nib had been slightly unscrewed. Once I tightened it, everything worked fine lol. I’m not sure how it became unscrewed between me putting the iPad down last night, going to bed, and then trying to use it again this morning, but it seems like that’s all that was wrong!

Hey all- I thought I followed up on this but I don’t see my follow up. I ended up making a Genius Bar appointment using my daughter’s iPad info. There was a step that asked me to specify what was wrong and one of the choices was “Accessories“ or “Peripherals” (can’t remember the exact wording.) I chose that. Her dad ended up taking her so I’m not sure if there were inspection or troubleshooting steps, but they completely replaced the pencil. So bottom line is I’m still not sure what the root cause of the problem is, but hopefully you can do the same and get a working pencil replacement!
