Chosen Solution

I need more storage on my MQD32 MacBook Air. Moreover I don’t want to buy the most expensive SSD. I found some models on the internet from a various brands and models but one of most important things that I want to know is how to figure out which Type of SSDs are compatible with my MacBook Air 2017 ? In the other words what is their connectors and speeds. Are they different and how do I know which SSDs are compatible with system? As an example can I use this SSD? ADATA XPG GAMMIX S10 512GB PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Thanks a lot guys!

Your System as well as all other Mac’s use a custom blade SSD. It can’t use M.2 SSD’s like the ADATA SSD as it won’t fit the connection. Here’s a good writeup on whats possible: The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs.

You will need a special adapter to convert the M.2 SSD to the systems SSD connector because Apple uses special connectors to the SSD. But yes, it is possible. OWC also sells good SSD’s on iFixit that will work straight up.
