Spilt an ice coffee on my laptop. Immediately powered down and took to repair shop. They dismantled it and cleaned it. I now power on and it displays “safe mode” in the top right. The screen flickers when reaching the login page and the laptop is unusable slow. Website take an extremely long time to appear, VLC can’t really play videos. The only thing working at normal speed is the mouse tracking. No sound, brightness controls etc (maybe due to safe mode?) I still hear startup chime. Done SMC and PRAM restart. Charges fine. Any ideas?

STOP! Turn the system off open the bottom cover and disconnect the battery ASAP! You don’t want to cause any more damage if things are still wet! Most likely they didn’t clean the logic board of the coffee solids using distilled water. The problem here is we don’t know if the logic board got wet. If you’re upto it pop the bottom cover and take some good detailed images on what you can see. Sadly, it’s the other side which is more likely the side to get wet from the drips down from the keyboard. Its also possible the upper case & battery got the worse of it if the lid was open and you spilled into the keyboard. The easiest way to solve that would be to replace the uppercase assembly. At this point I would go back to the shop and see if you can get your money back as this is just not good.
