I just picked up a yard machine riding lawn mower (mtd 13ad698g300). When I push the pedal to disengage the drive it does not work. This is also creating a large strain on starting the engine which is concerning me. Can anybody help me out? It does have the hyrdrostatic trans

The drive-belt is too small. Or… the idler pulley is “awry” (as the Brits say) . With a dead engine———- You may have to stand on your head, but check the idler-pulley when someone pushes the clutch. While you’re there, check the other tension-pulley. Bad bearings can lock it solid. Can you see the belt### ? I’ll bet its the wrong one! Then they got mad and stomped the clutch pedal, bending the small linkage shaft, which knocked the clutch adjustment out of sight. You’re in for a Saturday project. Be careful. I order belts (on-line) using the MFG# from the schematic. I do not buy generic, by dimensions. You need the parts schematic. Print it from the web.
