can i clone old hardisk with new SSD with mac OS X & Bootcamp Windows 8 inside without lossing any data? if can, what application i should use? last question out of topic: does MBPro 2012 have M.2 slot on it?
No, you can’t clone the drive for many different reasons. You’ll want to use the tools Apple provides to prep and install a fresh OS on your new drive so it is correctly configured. Once the OS is installed the last step asks if you want to migrate your data from an old drive, system or TimeMachine backup. This is when you’ll move your stuff over and if you have Windows setup under BootCamp it will be transferred. Otherwise you’ll need to use MS Windows backup & recovery tools if you are running Windows alone. You’ll need a carrier to hold your original drive. OWC offers a USB3 case to hold the custom Apple SSD unit if you have a retina MacBook. If you have a older non-retina model then a SATA to USB adapter will be needed. As for the type of drive interface your system has it is similar to the M.2 interface but its not compatible. Apple uses its own custom SSD units for their retina series systems. The older models use a standard 2.5" SATA drive.
