Chosen Solution

Older set. Problem was intermittent at first. Now, will not go on at all. When I try to turn it on it ‘clicks’ several times but will not power up. No audio. No video. Possibly a worn out solenoid? That thing where you warm it up by blasting a hair blow dryer into the back - does that actually work? Does anyone have any other band-aid-type solutions that have actually worked? At 80 kg / 176 lb this is a heavy sucker and I do not relish the idea of lugging it up or down our stairs again.

@cliffg this model does have a weakness of chips failing on the power supply D board. This would explain the clicking noise of the relay. Since yours is a CRT monitor, you do wnat to be extremely careful and unless you have worked on CRT’s I suggest you read about how to discharge the CRT as well as other caps. It packs a punch and could definitely become a heart stopping experience. Anyhow, The two IC’s are marked on the image attach and let us know if you want to proceed or let someone else do it etc.

Great write up on the repair can be found on here
