Chosen Solution

My 2001 Volkswagen Passat 1.8t is hard starting when hot or cold and I have to crank over the engine and turn the key off and try again and again before it will start. When it does start it usually idles really low until it finally catches up to normal.

Even though it does sound a lot like a Fuel pump/fuel pressure issue. Get your car scanned just in case. Fuel pump won’t throw a code though. When you have the codes and aren’t sure, post back here.

check your fuel pump in case fuel is not pumping. In case, it’s not fuel pump, check the fuel filter if its not that then it is starting sensor. these are the three likely suggestions for the hard starting in VW passat.
